Recovery time after a chemical peel depends on what kind of peel was done and how deep it was. With all types of peels, proper care of the skin after the peel is very important to speed healing, help results last longer, prevent infection, and avoid colour changes in the treated area caused by sun exposure. Chemical peels are designed to wound and remove the upper layers of the skin. You need to prepare yourself for how your skin will look immediately after the peel and throughout the healing process
- Your skin will peel for 2 days, but no need to take time off from work
- It is very important not to rub, force or pick off peeling skin; peeling is minimal and easily controlled with moisturizer. Premature peeling of the skin will result in dry, cracked, raw skin that may develop into hyper-pigmentation.
- After a chemical peel, skin is temporarily more sensitive to the sun, so avoid any sun exposure until peeling has stopped and wear sunscreen every day. It should say “broad-spectrum” on the label, meaning it protects against the sun’s UVA and UVB rays. Limit your time in the sun, especially between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and wear a wide-brimmed hat.
- Avoid strenuous exercise and sweating
- Your skin will have a burning sensation during the procedure, painless afterwards, might have a red flushed face able to cover with foundation.
- Do not allow water or shampoo to run on the treated areas
- Sleep on your back
- Do not wear make-up while skin is healing
- Moisturize your skin daily with DermNourish
