Questions?

Chemical peels work best for people who are experiencing hyper-pigmentation, textured skin, discoloration, and acne scarring.

A chemical peel is a 20 minute chemical exfoliation process that penetrates deeper in the skin in order for the top layers of the skin to start shedding. This process stimulates collagen and increases cellular turnover to reveal new, fresh skin.

Chemical peels can be done on the face, neck, or hands.

It is adivsed that chemical peels should be done in the months not containing “R” (May – August)

Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions – Chemical Peels

What are the risks of chemical peels?
Which skin types react best with Chemical Peels?

Generally, fair-skinned and light-haired patients are better candidates for chemical peels.

If you have darker skin, you may also have good results, depending upon the type of problem being treated.

Skin sags, bulges, and more severe wrinkles do not respond well to chemical peels. They may need other kinds of cosmetic surgical procedures, such as botox or dermal fillers. Dr Inge can help determine the most appropriate type of treatment for you.

How often can I do a chemical peel?

Monthly

How soon will I see results?

Even with realistic expectations, you may not see results for several weeks or months after a chemical peel.

How do I prepare for a chemical peel?

Tell Dr Inge if you have any history of scarring, cold sores that keep coming back, allergies / eczema, rosacea, seborrhoeic dermatitis, a history of pigmentation disorder, excessie scarring tendency or keloid scarring, use of Roaccutane,  anticoagulant, chemotherapy, pregnant or breastfeeding, recent cosmetic surgery, recent sunburn or facial X-rays.

Your make up will be removed so bring your make up to the consultation.

Take an antiviral medication if you have a history of fever blisters or cold sores to prevent a breakout around the mouth.

Use special lotions to improve treatment, like glycolic acid lotion.

Use a retinoid cream to prevent skin darkening.

Stop waxing, epilating, or using depilatory hair removal products the week before the peel. You should also avoid hair bleaching.

Stop using facial scrubs and exfoliants the week before the peel.

What can I expect?
How much do chemical peels cost?

Unfortunately chemical peels are considered a cosmetic procedure and medical aid does not cover it.

Chemical peels can range between R500-R1000 per peel, depending on the depth of the peel.

Maintenance is needed, depending on what skin conditions you are treating. We usually recommend a peel every two weeks for maintenance.
